About WEC
For the first time in the American continent, the third edition of the World Engineers` Convention – WEC, which has already taken place in Germany and China, intends to gather more than 5 thousand engineers from all over the world in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, from 2 to 6 December 2008!

WEC is known as the greatest event in the world in the area of engineering. During the third edition of the congress, professionals and students from the five continents will participate in debates, forums, speeches, technical visits and cultural activities, all of them related to current issues about environment and sustainable engineering.

Consolidating WEC as an important event for debates which involves international issues is a challenge offered by Confea (Brazilian Federal Council of Engineering, Architecture and Agronomy), Febrae (Brazilian Federation of Engineers’ Association) and WFEO/FMOI (Fédération Internationale des Organisations d’Ingénieurs), which are responsible for the congress organization.

Background
In 1999, after years of discussion, the WFEO/FEMOI direction decided to promote regular meetings with engineers worldwide. It has been considered that professionals of this area would be able to contribute to the search of a technological development with less unbalance between the human buildings and nature. Since then, it has been determined that in every four years, world conferences would be organized by the supervision of WFEO/FEMOI and also organized by affiliated associations from the host countries.

Edições Anteriores
Hannover, Germany – 2000

WFEO/FEMOI’s initial concerns may be noticed in the first WEC theme: “Humanity – Nature – Technology”. The discussions involved especially the need of qualifications for future engineers, in order to effectively face challenges imposed by the rapid world population growth, natural resources shortage, and increase of globalization. One of the great victories achieved in the first WEC was the acknowledgement of a report on the event published by Unesco. This document was the first publication of the series “World Report on Engineering and Technology”.

Xangai, China – 2004

In November 2004, more than 3 thousand people from 70 different countries participated of the WEC in Shanghai and showed that this event was already a success.

Despite the title “Engineers shape the sustainable future” emphasizes the importance of engineers, this meeting was marked by the participation of processionals from other areas of knowledge, which has enriched the debate, expanding the performance of the themes presented. The Women’s Forum achievement – with the theme “Women’s advance in the workplace: improving corporate practices” – received more than 500 participants, and also contributed to diversify the discussions during the WEC second edition.

Brazil played an important role in Shanghai with one of the biggest delegations in the event. At the end, the presidents of Confea and Febrae made an official invitation for WEC 2008 in Brazil.
